What can you do at home to help maintain your foot health.

During this time in which we have had to close down the practice and with the likelihood that we will only be able to see emergency and essential appointments, after we have properly triaged each case, in the near future. Its is going to down to you guys at home to maintain your feet to the best of your ability. Here are a few simple things you can to at home:

  1. Trim your nails, straight across please NOT down the sides.
  2. File your nails after you have trimmed them. this will reduce the chance any sharp bits being left reducing the chance of an ingrowing toe nail.
  3. Moisturise your feet daily. With a urea based cream, such as CCS cream if possible but any moisturizer will do if you don’t have a urea based on. This will also help protect the skin on your hands from all the hand washing we are currently doing.
  4. Unsure you wash and dry including between the toes thoroughly to reduce the chance of developing any fungal/bacterial infections.

If you are unable to do these yourself its important to ask somebody in your household. Also, if you or the person you ask to help is worried about cutting the nails please just file them. Although this will need to be done more frequently.

Whilst we may not be able to see you in right now please to contact us if you have any worries about your foot health and will be more than happy to help in any way we can either via phone, email and hopefully soon video.
